So I wanted to spend my Halloween evening working on a doodle Miss Violet as a vampire but my mother's computer has caught some thing and I don't know what it is at the moment.

Seems it started a few days or a week ago when she noticed that the home page on Internet Explorer changed to a site she hadn't herd of. Some kind of a search site, it started with a C I think. When she showed me the problem she was getting like survey pop ups from our ISP. The whole things reeks of a virus and or a scam. Right now we have the computer doing a full system scan to see if it can find the problem and take care of it, as im writing this it as only found 21 tracking cookies.

I saw posts online about survey scams where they say you will get a free gift and then you get charged on your credit card. She didn't do the survey, but I have told her to keep an eye on her credit card to see if any thing weird happens. I dont know what she does on her computer, but I know she has downloaded a few different bluray player programs cuz her computer has a hard time playing them and we dont know why, she could have gotten some thing from one of them.

I know there are people out there that know this stuff far better then me, so I figured some one out there might have some info that could help us.

If you don't mind doing a little manual malware removal, Microsoft's Process Explorer is a godsend. It's like the Task Manager, except it shows a lot more processes, and shows the drive path to the program. So if you can kill the process, you can delete the file. If you can't kill it, you can usually find and remove it from the registry, then delete it after rebooting.
